CAN GOD DIE?
Christians believe Jesus is God, and that Jesus died on the cross, so can God die?

That’s a great question and a common misunderstanding.
As Christians, we believe that Jesus is God, and we also believe that Jesus died on the cross. But to properly answer this question, we first need to understand what death really is.
Death is not the end of existence. Death occurs when the spirit within a person leaves the physical body and returns to God.
This is possible because our physical body is not the real us. The Bible refers to our body as an “earthly tabernacle,” a temporary dwelling place for our true identity.
We are spirit.
The real “me” is not this body, which will eventually decay when physical life ends. Scripture also tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. If we can leave the body and still be present somewhere else, then we cannot be our bodies.
The Bible tells us that God is Spirit. That Spirit dwelled in the physical body of Jesus Christ while He was on the earth. So when Jesus was crucified, His physical body experienced death and lay in the grave for three days.
But killing the body does not kill the spirit.
His Spirit was still very much alive. So no, God did not die, and God cannot die.
What Jesus did was willingly submit Himself to experience death through His human flesh on the cross. If you are wondering why He did it, the answer is simple.
He did it for you and for me.
Jesus was sinless, yet He took on our sin so that we would not have to bear the penalty of it ourselves. He died so that we would not have to experience the eternal death that sin leads to.
Why would He do that?
Because God loves you. He loves me. He loves us enough to make a way for us to spend eternity in His presence.
That way is found in believing in who Jesus is and what He has done for us.
